My walk to Rai Fitness involved jogging around unlit streets, blind corners and my favourite, the jog across 6 lanes of traffic due to there being to bridge or underpass. Luckily, Rai Fitness was worth it. They started strongly by giving me a free day pass to try the gym. This is usually a sign they are confident in their service and the standard of their equipment. Or the receptionist cashed up early and doesn't give a fuck. One of the two. A day pass would usually cost you 100,000 rps (approx £6) and includes a sweat towel to use. I have also taken a photo of the price list for membership which was correct as of October 2016.
Luckily here it was the former. Rai Fitness is a HIGH end gym, even by modern British Standards. The gym is Air conditioned, had a bank of cardio machines, a spin room, another room for classes, free weights and weight machines. Their selection of music is modern and appropriate. Speaking to one of the huge personal trainers of shift that day, he told me that the gym has been open for 3 years, but everything still looks new.
This gym has:
- Dumbbells up to 40kg
- Adjustable benches
- Smith machine,
- Squat rack,
- Decline Barbell bench
- Flat Barbell bench
- Incline barbell bench,
- Olympic bars
- Cables,
- Pec Dec,
- Leg press
- Leg extension
- Leg curls
- Check press machine
- Lat pulldown
- Shoulder press machines
- Easy bars
- Kettle bells
- Running machines
- Rowing machines
- Cycling machines
- Cross trainers
They also have a number of really nice touches here, such as a "Quiet hour" every day where the music is turned down, or classes aimed at beginners so that they can train together and feel less self conscious.
As you would expect this gym sells protein, amino acids and pre workout by the serving, as well as water and other sports drinks. Amino acids were 10,000 rpa (Approx 0.70p), Whey Isolate was 30,000 rps (approx £2.50) and pre-workout was 24,000 (Approx £1.75). See photo below.
Tips: If you are thinking about joining, do enquire about getting a free day pass as this will save you quite a bit of money. A free water cooler is also provided to bring a bottle.
