Review: Bali Asri Gym is part of Villa Bali Asri which consists of a private vacation villa complex and Spa. Based in the heart of Seminyak and withub walking distance to the beach, Bali Asri Gym may make a convenient gym for those staying in the Seminyak area,

The grounds of the villas are beautiful and look like this. Villas here start from 1,500,000 IDR (approx £93) per night. Villas come equipped with things such as, Feather pillows, Cable Tv, DVD and CD players, Free Internet access, International calls and even a free Airport transfer service.

Daily breakfast is served and prepared in the villas which is a nice touch. The hotel also offers daily house keeping service, 24 hours security, easy access and parking, car and scooter rental, tour service, baby sitting, laundry service, in-house dining arrangement, etc.

But if you are reading this blog, then the biggest draw for you is likely to be that those who stay in one of the villas here get free access to the on-site gym. The on-site gym is found on the road side of the villa complex and opposite the reception area. The gym itself is smallish, but it is a decent gym, with enough equipment here to get a good workout.

Importantly, the gym is also open to members of the public, as well as those staying in the villas. Entrance on a day pass will cost you 50,000 IDR (Approx £3)

Whilst the gym is a little small on space, they have almost everything you need to get a decent upper body workout. Don't get me wrong this isn't an ideal gym for lifters, due to the light dumbbells, and the lack of a barbell bench, but they do have a smith a smith machine and I suppose smith machine squats and chest press are better than nothing? Right? Anyone?

Equipment wise, this gym has:
  • Dumbbells up to 25kg
  • Adjustable benches
  • Smith machine
  • Cables
  • Pull up bar
  • Easy bar
  • Lat pulldown
  • Seated low row
  • Drips / leg raise platform
  • Pec Dec
  • Hack squat machine
  • Static bike
  • Cross trainer
  • Treadmill
  • Swiss ball
  • Yoga mats
  • Showers
  • Changing room
Whilst the gym is primarily equipped for lifters, the cardio equipment is a little basic and dated. However, if you just need a treadmill to put some miles in whilst on holiday, then this gym has everything you need.

The gym is air conditioned and has a stereo system for music, including an aux cord so that you can play your own music whilst you work out. A day pass to the gym also covers the use of a sweat towel and purified water from a dispenser in the gym.

Who is this gym for? Whilst I was here the gym was used exclusively by tourists. The space was clean, smelt ok and felt safe and professional for a hotel gym. As such, I would recommend this place as being suitable for everyone.

The only thing to note is that the path to this gym from Seminyak is a little narrow and isolated. Lone female travellers may wish to consider arranging a taxi back late at night, if they are concerned about walking through isolated streets alone.

Tips: The gym is unattended you you need to pay at complex office , which is just opposite the gym. You can pay here and pick up your sweat towel.
