As a result of a niggling elbow problem, I decided to try and see a physic whilst in Malaysia. This led me to the Team Powerhouse Fitness gym which was a great find. It is about a 10 minute walk away from the Straits Quay. Open since 1 February 2015, Team Powerhouse Fitness is a full western standard gym with all the equipment you could want.
Review: The gym also runs classes for all levels and offers personal training and physiotherapy appointments which I will discuss below. The gym has modern machines, up to date cardio equipment and a functions strength room upstairs.
The gym has the following equipment:
- Dumbbells up to 50kg.
- A Squat rack and olympic bars
- Smith machine
- barbell benchpress,
- incline benchpress,
- Crossover cables,
- lat pull down,
- Leg press
- Leg curl machine
- Leg extension machine
- Bicept machines
- Tricet machines
- running machines,
- cycling machines,
- cross trainers.
- Rowing machines
- A fitness studio for classes
- Battle ropes
- Medicine balls
- Climbing frame
- Punch bag
- Sauna
- TRX
- Kettle bells
The gym changing rooms are also of a high standard and water fountains are available.
Prices: A day pass for this gym will cost you 35 ringgets , (about £7)
However, a week pass will only cost you 75 ringgets (about £15)
The gym sells cans of pre-made pre-workout but no protein, so remember to bring a shake with you if you can.
Physiotherapy: I was able to get a same day appointment with Enrico Blasutto, who was one of the trainers and the physio at Team Powerhouse Fitness. For one hours treatment the cost was 90 ringgets. After giving me an initial examination, Enrico treated me with 20 mins of electro muscle stimulation, before applying and iced elbow pack for a further 20 mins and then some acupressure on the muscle in questions. The total treatment time was 1 hour. All of Enrico's equipment looked up to date and his treatment room was clean and in good condition.
Who is this gym for? I would highly recommend to everyone looking to train properly. Whilst I was in there I saw a mixed clientele, both in terms of gender, age and ability. I would especially recommend this gym to anyone looking to lift heavy or perform heavy compound movements. I would also highly recommend the physio treatment here.
Tip: One of the signs outside the building still says Fitness First, but don't worry, you are in the right place.
